Some presidential sources have provided an explanation on why President Bola Tinubu is yet to return to Nigeria from his vacation to the United Kingdom.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu left Abuja, the nation’s capital, for a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom, which is part of his annual leave on Wednesday, 2nd October.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier announced that Tinubu would depart Abuja for the United Kingdom to begin a two-week vacation, part of his yearly leave.
Naija News reports that he stated that Tinubu will use the two weeks as a working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.
According to Onanuga, the President will return to the country after the leave expires.
However, questions have started springing up, particularly in political circles, on why the Nigerian leader has not returned to the country after the expiration of his two-week vacation.
But top government officials quoted by Punch on the matter, explained that weekends are not to be counted as part of President Tinubu’s leave.
The sources added that Tinubu is expected back in Nigeria around the weekend or early next week from October 21.
One of the sources said, “If you were to calculate the two weeks from October 2, he should be returning on Wednesday, October 16.
“But you only count the working days. Meaning, weekends are out of it. So, he’s supposed to spend 14 working days which is going to end by early next week.”
