The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Abraham Amah as its new chairman.

Naija News understands that Amah, who previously served as the State Vice Chairman and acting State Publicity Secretary for Abia North, secured 1,264 votes, surpassing his nearest competitor, Olugu Kalu, who received 395 votes and finished in second place in an election during the weekend.

Hailing from Ihechiowa in the Arochukwu local government area of Abia State, Amah has been a vocal critic of the current Labour Party-led administration in the state and remains a prominent figure within the PDP, having chosen to remain with the party.

The zonal leaders of the PDP elected on Sunday include: Onwuka Kalu as Chairman of Abia Central, Enyinnaya Appolos as Chairman of Abia South, and Abia Elendu Kalu Elendu as Chairman of Abia North.

Lagos PDP Leaders Call For Unity, Mobilization Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Meanwhile, top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State have urged party members to come together and speak with a unified voice as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Diadem, a group of technocrats within the PDP, the leaders emphasized the need for unity to restore the party’s strength in Lagos.

The event, held in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA, celebrated Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day and focused on mobilizing 100,000 “organic members” for the party.

Titled “Ideological Democracy as Against Palliative & Deceptive Politics,” the gathering was the first of its kind by any political group in the LGA, according to Dayo Kayode, the convener and aviation expert.

Kayode stressed that the party must prioritize unity, setting aside personal interests to strengthen the PDP in Lagos. He noted, “We must unite, we must speak with one voice as we approach 2027.”

Kayode further explained that the event aimed to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence and rally support for PDP across Lagos wards, noting that the group intends to register 100,000 new members.

Bolaji Akinyemi, a keynote speaker, highlighted issues hindering Nigeria’s progress, such as corruption, weak leadership, and electoral fraud.
