The Nigerian Police has arraigned the embattled member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Kuje.
Naija News reports that Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a post via his X handle.
Adejobi added that more details regarding the ongoing arraignment would be provided shortly.
He wrote, “RULE OF LAW: POLICE PROSECUTES HON ALEXANDER IKWEGH FOR ASSAULT..
“Details soon.”
Recall that an altercation had ensued between the lawmaker and the bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, while delivering a package in the Maitama area of Abuja.
The disagreement led to the lawmaker assaulting the cab driver, threatening to make him disappear from Nigeria without any consequence.
A viral video circulating on social media reportedly shows Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency, slapping and verbally abusing the driver for requesting that he approach the car to receive a delivery.
In the footage, Ikwechegh is seen threatening the driver, claiming his position in the House of Representatives would shield him from repercussions, even if the Inspector-General of Police were informed.
He also allegedly damaged the driver’s phone, tore his clothes, and refused to pay for the service, threatening further harm.
