The President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has reacted to the devastating news of a road accident in Zambia that took the lives of seven footballers from the Chavuma Town Council Football Club.
The accident, which occurred over the past weekend, sent shockwaves through the Zambian football community. The footballers were en route to a crucial match in the North Western Province Division One League when the incident took place, highlighting the inherent risks faced by those involved in the sport.
In a heartfelt statement, Motsepe conveyed his deepest sympathies not only to the bereaved families but also to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the wider Zambian community.
“It is with a heavy heart that I learned about the tragic road accident that led to the loss of life and left several members of the Chavuma Town Council Football Club severely injured while they were travelling to compete in a league match,” the CAF president said in a statement on Monday, October 28.
Motsepe continued, “I wish to extend my condolences and those of the CAF to the families, friends, and teammates of the deceased players, as well as to the Football Association of Zambia during this incredibly difficult time.”
He also expressed hope for the recovery of those injured in the accident, stating, “We hope and pray that the injured will make a full recovery soon. May God provide comfort and strength to the families, friends, and colleagues mourning this loss, as well as to the entire Football Association of Zambia.”
