A Kano State Upper Shari’a Court has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone One, to launch a formal investigation into Danladi Sankara, the suspended Jigawa State commissioner, over allegations involving an affair with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.

The court’s decision came after a direct complaint was filed by Tasleem’s husband, citing concerns over an alleged illicit relationship.

The controversy began when the Kano State Hisbah Board apprehended Sankara last Thursday in an uncompleted building he owns in Nassarawa GRA, Kano Metropolis.

Despite being granted bail with conditions that required his appearance at subsequent reconciliatory meetings, Sankara failed to show up on Monday, prompting further legal actions.

Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, Commander General of the Hisbah Board, expressed disappointment over Sankara’s absence, which he believed hindered potential reconciliation efforts guided by Islamic principles.

“As Hisbah members, Islam is our guidance, and it encourages reconciliation. However, by all indications, he doesn’t want reconciliation, so we will proceed with legal action,” Daurawa stated.

During the court session on Tuesday, the complainant’s counsel, Haruna Magashi, argued that there was substantial evidence, including videos, pictures, phone conversations, and financial transactions, which supported the allegations against Sankara and Tasleem.

Conversely, Tasleem’s counsel, Rabi’u Shuaibu Abdullahi, defended her by claiming the allegations were fabricated to tarnish her reputation amidst a troubled separation from her husband that involved alleged maltreatment and abuse.

Sankara’s lawyer, Aliyu Usman Hajji, dismissed the accusations as politically motivated attempts to damage Sankara’s reputation, highlighting the adverse impact of social media on his client’s public image and career.

In his ruling, Judge Ibrahim Sarki Yola instructed the AIG to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations without resorting to harassment or arrests.
