#EdoDecides2024: CSOs Urge INEC To Cancel Elections In Some Polling Units

Ongoing local government elections in Kaduna State have been significantly disrupted due to the late arrival of election materials and officials, causing frustration among voters and party agents.

Voting was scheduled to commence at 8:00 AM, but as of 10:00 AM, many polling units remained without the necessary materials to begin the electoral process.

Reports indicate that several collection centres, particularly in areas such as Tudun Wada, Badiko, Magajin Gari, and Unguwar Sarki, experienced delays in the distribution of materials to polling units.

Former councillor of Unguwar Sarki Ward, Zubairu Shan’una, in a chat with Daily Trust expressed his concerns about the situation, stating, “We are still here waiting. The election was to commence by 8:30 AM, but as of 10:00 AM, the materials have yet to arrive at Unguwar Sarki.”

Similarly, Malam Idris, a party agent at the Maimuna Gwarzo Secondary School polling unit, reported that he had arrived at the venue as early as 6:30 AM, only to find that officials and materials were still absent. “We have been here since 6:30 AM, but the officials are yet to arrive, and the materials have not been distributed,” he said, highlighting the frustration felt by agents and voters alike.

At Magajin Gari, the atmosphere turned chaotic as party agents lamented the delay, raising concerns about the potential impact on voter turnout and the overall integrity of the election process.
