Arsenal and Liverpool shared points at the Emirate Stadium on Sunday after a thrilling Premier League encounter, thanks to Mohamed Salah‘s late strike, which saved the Reds from recording a match loss in the ongoing campaign.
Naija News reports that Salah’s 81st minutes goal secured Liverpool a 2-2 draw against their arch-rival, Arsenal.
Arne Slot’s side had trailed behind Bukayo Saka’s early goal, but Virgil van Dijk levelled the score before halftime.
Just before halftime, Mikel Merino put Arsenal back in the lead.
However, Salah’s goal gave Liverpool an equalizer.
The tough match saw Arsenal stars including Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber both being substituted off in the second half following injuries.
It is worth noting that Manchester City emerged as the clear winners on Sunday, with the draw in north London securing their position at the top of the Premier League.
City, who had a 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday, are now a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool, with third-placed Arsenal falling five points behind the leaders.
This was the second time Liverpool had failed to secure a win since Arne Slot took over as manager, beginning his tenure at Anfield with a record of 12 wins from 13 games in all competitions.
However, Liverpool will be content with the point for their strong comeback against a fellow title contender.
Arsenal were left to recover from the defensive injuries that left them vulnerable.
They were already missing Riccardo Calafiori, who was sidelined by an injury against Shakhtar Donetsk in the middle of the week, and William Saliba, who was suspended after his red card in last weekend’s match against Bournemouth.
Mikel Arteta’s team has now gone without a win in two league games, dropping to just three victories in their last seven matches, which is a significant blow to their ambitions of winning the title for the first time since 2004.
