Former Super Eagles of Nigeria coach, Jose Peseiro has expressed his excitement following his nomination for the 2024 International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) Men’s World Best National Team Coach award.
Jose Peseiro, who made his name in international football while coaching the Nigeria national team, is among a group of 20 coaches from around the globe who have been recognized for their contributions to national football.
Peseiro’s impressive tenure with the Super Eagles culminated in a commendable second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which took place in Cote d’Ivoire from January to February 2024.
His leadership during the tournament was marked by a deep commitment to developing the team, earning him respect within the football community.
Following the expiration of his contract in February, Peseiro decided to part ways with the Super Eagles. Since that departure, he has remained out of coaching.
In his statement to celebrate his nomination for the IFFHS award, Peseiro took the opportunity to extend his heartfelt thanks to the Super Eagles players, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and all those who contributed positively to his journey.
He said, “I am very proud and pleased to receive this nomination from IFFHS. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication that my coaching staff and I have consistently poured into our service for the Nigerian national team.”
Peseiro further emphasized the significance of the achievements recorded during his tenure, saying, “The records we break will be etched in history, as will the unforgettable experience of our journey to the final of the AFCON.”
