The family of the former Governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje, has refuted claims of guests spraying dollars at their daughter’s wedding ceremony.
Recall that the wedding between Fauziyya Goje and her groom, Aliyu Abubakar, was held on Friday at the Central Mosque in Abuja.
Prominent dignitaries at the wedding included President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajuddeen Abbas, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, serving and former governors, serving and former members of the National Assembly, and the National Security Adviser, among others.
Reacting to a viral video in which guests were spraying a couple dollars, Muhammad Yayari, media aide to Goje, in a statement on Sunday, said the family of the Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, would never come so low to condone an activity that is contrary to the laws of Nigeria.
Yayari said the malicious video was the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to sabotage the successful ceremony and bring denigration to the entire family and its esteemed guests.
The statement read, “On behalf of the respected Goje’s family, we categorically deny this mischievous allegation and consider it a blatant and calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the revered family and the esteemed guests who attended the ceremony.
“It is, therefore, unthinkable and mischievous for disgruntled elements to share the viral dollar-spraying video depicting or insinuating the same to be part of the celebration of Fauziyya’s wedding. Goje’s family is revered and would never come so low to engage in or condone an activity contrary to the laws of Nigeria.
“We want to state that the said bride and the groom seen in the viral video aren’t the newly wedded daughter of Danjuma Goje and her groom, and there’s no familiar face to the family. Thus, the video is not in anyway related to Goje and his entire family.
“We believe this malicious video is the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to sabotage the successful ceremony and bring denigration to the entire family and its esteemed guests. We urge the public to disregard this baseless claim and appreciate the values of decency and respect that define our family.
“Throughout the line of events to celebrate the wedding, there was no place where men and women were mixed. We appreciate the support and goodwill of friends, associates, and well-wishers during this joyous occasion.”
