In a heartening ceremony at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Headquarters, Abuja, the NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, was presented with a prestigious award from the Special Eagles, Nigeria’s renowned amputee football team.

Led by their President, Mr. Paul Maduakor, the Special Eagles visited Gusau on Friday to express their appreciation for his role in advancing inclusivity in Nigerian football.

The Special Eagles team, comprising resilient athletes who have defied physical challenges, has long been an inspiration, their journeys a testament to the power of sports to transcend limitations.

Their visit wasn’t only to honor Gusau but also to spark deeper support and collaboration from the NFF.

During the ceremony, Gusau expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Maduakor and the team. He highlighted the immense courage and determination displayed by the Special Eagles, promising that their contributions would not go unrecognized or unsupported.

“Encouragement and support for athletes with disabilities are essential,” Gusau said, stressing that the NFF would actively pursue ways to back the Special Eagles. “We will explore avenues to provide support and foster collaboration between the NFF and the Special Eagles,” he assured, signaling a commitment that could significantly boost the team’s morale and resources.

Among the officials attending the occasion were the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi MON; the Special Eagles Technical Director, Victor Onyeakachukwu Nwenwe; two players from the Special Eagles team; and their Secretary-General, Madam Nonye Nwose.

The visit symbolizes more than an award presentation—it marks a pivotal moment in the relationship between the NFF and the Special Eagles.

By strengthening ties, both organizations look forward to future collaborations that will not only promote football development but also champion empowerment programs tailored for persons with disabilities.

With Gusau’s promise to explore supportive avenues, there is hope that the Special Eagles will find new opportunities and recognition in Nigerian football.
