The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the collation of results for the Ondo State governorship election from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, initially announced that the collation of results from the remaining five local government areas would resume at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday. However, he later stated that the process would now begin at noon.
Prof. Akinwunmi explained that the recess was necessary to allow for the arrival of results from the remaining local government areas, including Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo.
In his announcement, Akinwunmi said, “We have five more local governments to collate, but we are taking a break until 5:00 a.m. to receive results from Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo. We will resume collation at 5:00 a.m. for these local governments.”
So far, results from 13 out of 18 local government areas have been announced by INEC. According to the results, Aiyedatiwa has secured 259,851 votes, leading his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has polled 81,031 votes.
