NCC Withdraws Statement Against Starlink

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has withdrawn its earlier statement against Starlink, in which it threatened to sanction the organization for an unauthorized increase in its subscription fees.

The NCC had, earlier on Tuesday, said it was set to take enforcement measures against Starlink over its recent decision to increase the price of its subscription packages.

According to the commission, Starlink did not receive approval before announcing the price increase.

However, the NCC, in another update on Tuesday, said the initial statement was issued prematurely and in error.

Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, Reuben Muoka, apologized for the confusion and inconvenience caused by the first statement.

He said: “We request that all media platforms kindly withdraw the previously issued statement on Starlink’s price hike, as it was issued in error.”

“For those who have already published the statement, we kindly ask for its removal from your platforms.

“The NCC remains committed to ensuring regulatory stability and fostering a conducive environment for investment in the telecommunications sector, as stakeholders continue to call for a review of tariffs to attract further investment.

“We appreciate your cooperation and apologize for any confusion or inconvenience caused by the earlier release.”
