Nigerian women’s table tennis star, Offiong Edam has announced her retirement from the national team after unbroken twenty years, Sports247 reports.
The Table Tennis Icon made this known on Thursday via social media outlets, after two decades of wearing the national colours, winning honours for Nigeria at major tournaments.

Edem, 37, wrote she will be exploring new opportunities after her retirement which includes the nurturing and inspiring of young table tennis talents, and the new generation to surpass her achievements.
“A proud 5-time Olympian, I bid farewell to the national team. It’s time to explore new horizons and nurture young table tennis talents, inspiring the next generation to surpass my achievements”, she wrote.
“I extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who’s supported me on this incredible journey: family, friends, and well-wishers. Your unwavering love and encouragement mean the world. From humble beginnings in Bayside to international recognition, thank you, IOC, NOC, NTTF, and I thank God for talent and the opportunities it brought so much as been achieved, and I’m grateful I bow out and still remain committed to the table tennis community, empowering young stars. Once again, thank you all for your support. Peace and love.”
Offiong Edem has become one of the household names in Nigeria women Table Tennis following the success track of Bose Kofo and Funke Oshonaike.
With five Olympics under her belt and numerous Africa games title , Edem has paid her dues as far as the game on the continent and the world at large.
