Rivers United and Elkanemi have stretched their unbeaten streak to nine games in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL after the installation of Matchday nine matches, Sports247 reports.
Both. teams faced off on Sunday at the Adokie Amasiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt but it ended with a share of the spoils as both sides settled for 1-1 to continue their unbeaten run in the season.
Elkanemi shot into the lead in the 31st minute through Samaila Bello and Taofeek Otaniyi responded in the 33rd minute to draw the home team as the first half ended 1-1 .
Rivers United failed to capitalise on the one man advantage after Gimba Ajiji was sent off on the stroke of half time as the game dragged to a goalless second half.
River United extended their lead on top of the log, with 21 points opening a three point gap between their closest rival, Remo Stars, (18 points)who lost to Heartland by 1-0 in Owerri on Sunday evening.
Peter Afolayan’s lone strike kept Remo Stars on 18 points while Heartland moved out of the relegation zone, easing off pressure for coach Emmanuel Amuneke.
