The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy candidate in the ongoing Ondo State governorship election, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, has secured a decisive victory for his principal, Agboola Ajayi, at Polling Unit 8, Ward 2, Alade Okun, Alade-Idanre.
Akingbaso delivered the unit with a commanding 187 votes, leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) trailing with 46 votes. The Labour Party (LP), the Action Alliance (AA), and the PLP each secured one vote.
Despite fears of disruption, the voting process and collation of results were successfully concluded, thanks to the intervention of armed roving policemen.
Reports indicated that the community was surrounded by hoodlums allegedly intent on snatching the ballot box.
According to The Nation, witnesses said the situation grew tense until policemen fired several warning shots into the air to disperse the alleged hoodlums.
The officers were later persuaded to remain at the polling unit throughout the sorting and collation of votes to ensure the process was completed without further disruption.
The results from Polling Unit 8 serve as a significant boost for the PDP campaign as vote collation continues across the state amid heightened security concerns.
