Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected vote-buyer in the Ondo State governorship election.
The suspect was captured with two bags of money which are suspected to be for the inducement of voters in the election.
According to Channels Tv, he was arrested at Ward 4, Polling Unit 007 outside St. Stephen’s Primary School, Akure, Ondo State around 9 am on election day.
Meanwhile, the incumbent governor of Ondo State and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyedatiwa, cast his vote early on Saturday as the gubernatorial election in the state got underway.
Aiyedatiwa voted at his Polling Unit 05, Ward 4, Obenla, in Ilaje Local Government Area at exactly 8:52 a.m.
Shortly after voting, the governor praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its smooth and efficient process coordination, particularly in his ward.
The governor urged voters to exercise their franchise peacefully, emphasizing the importance of their participation in shaping the future of the state.
Reports from other parts of Ondo State indicate that voting materials and INEC ad-hoc staff arrived early in several polling units, setting the stage for a smooth election process. Security agencies are also on the ground to ensure law and order.
The Ondo governorship election has drawn significant attention, with Aiyedatiwa and other candidates from various political parties vying for the state’s top office.
