Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra has criticized the club’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, for his perceived lack of discipline on the field.

Patrice Evra’s remarks follow Manchester United’s disappointing 2-1 defeat against West Ham United in the Premier League over the weekend, a match in which Fernandes captained the side.

Speaking during an engaging discussion with his fellow United legend, Rio Ferdinand, on the YouTube channel ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents,’ Evra expressed his admiration for Fernandes but felt compelled to address some critical aspects of his performance.

“Listen, I love Bruno [Fernandes]. When he first joined the team, I was genuinely excited, thinking, ‘What a player!’ His ability to adapt to the Premier League was impressive, and his skills brought a new dynamic to the squad,” Evra stated.

However, he continued, “Despite my respect for Bruno, I must point out that he lacks discipline on the pitch. It appears as if there’s some confusion about his role; I’m not entirely sure where he’s supposed to be playing. This lack of clarity is concerning.”

Evra emphasized the pressing need for players to fulfil their responsibilities, adding, “With all due respect to Bruno, I don’t believe he’s meeting the requirements that Manchester United needs right now to succeed.”

His comments highlight the ongoing challenges the team faces and the expectations placed on their captain during a tumultuous season.

Note that United’s defeat to West Ham United contributed to the sack of coach Erik ten Hag despite having about two seasons on his contract.
