Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa Rejoin Kano Pillars

Super Eagles star player, Ahmed Musa, has rejoined Kano Pillars on a short-term contract.

Naija News reports that Musa and his compatriot, Sheu Abdullahi, returned to the country and joined Kano Pillars in a bid to participate in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League.

The duo were pictured at the training ground of the former champions on Thursday ahead of their NPFL match-day five home game against Sunshine Stars.

Kano Pillars announced the development via its official X handle on Friday.

It wrote: “Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Nazir Laja, and the rest of the squad trained ahead of NPFL 2024/25 Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars this weekend.”

Musa, aged 31, is set to rejoin Pillars for a third time, having previously played for the club from the 2009/10 season until 2021.

In contrast, Abdullahi will be making his second appearance for Pillars, having previously been with the team in 2012.

The defensive midfielder has been without a club since January 2023, while Musa ended his contract with Turkish side Sivasspor in February.

Despite the closure of the NPFL 2024/25 summer transfer window, both players are eligible to join the squad as free agents.

Sunday Obaseki, the head of competitions for the NPFL, confirmed this to journalists following Musa’s indication of his return to the Nigerian topflight.

“Yes, he can be registered. Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem,” Obaseki told the PUNCH.

Naija News understands that Rangers International, the reigning champions of the NPFL, have shown a keen interest in acquiring the former Super Eagles captain before his return to his previous club.

In his initial tenure with Pillars in 2009, Musa concluded the season as the leading scorer, netting 18 goals, before transferring to VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie.

His European career has included stints at CSKA Moscow and Leicester City, after which he transitioned to Saudi Arabia to join Al Nassr.
