The Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Ibadan branch, Ibrahim Lawal, has called on the newly appointed judges in Oyo State to see their appointment as a call to duty.
Ibrahim Lawal gave the advice on Saturday, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
Recall that the National Judicial Council (NJC) approved the appointment of eight High Court judges for Oyo State.
The judges are Opayinka Adeniyi, Oyediran Oloyede, Oladejo Olusoji, Oluwaseun Ademola-Salami, Adesina Jimoh, Yemi Adekunle, Olutola Adepoju and Olayemi Muraina.
Lawal told the new judges to see the appointment as a service to the nation. He reminded them of the need to protect the integrity of the judiciary through fair dispensation of justice.
According to him, the appointment of the eight new judges would help in the quick dispensation of justice. He added it would help to reduce the workload of judges.
“It gladdens our hearts that the appointment came eventually. The new appointment will in no small way reduce the number of cases waiting for adjudication,” NAN quoted him.
The Ibadan NBA branch chairman noted that before the appointment of the judges, cases wait too for long to be assigned to judges. He emphasized that the newly appointed judges would fill the gap.
