Ikogosi Warm Spring is in Ikogosi, Ekiti State. Two springs, one warm and one cold, flow side by side and meet. The springs and the resort beside them are the focus of this guide.
What makes it unusual
The two springs flow side by side and meet beneath a causeway. Each keeps its own temperature. A 2012 Business Day article, reprinted by the Ekiti State Government, reports about 70°C at the warm spring’s source and about 37°C after it meets the cold spring. These are reported figures from 2012, not confirmed current measurements.
The scientific explanation reported in that article attributes the heat to a deep fracture in the basement rock and the normal geothermal gradient. This is the explanation given by the article for why one spring is warm while the other is cold.
Local stories
Local stories offer different explanations for the springs. One tale says they were two wives of one husband who turned into water. Another credits a hunter with finding the warm spring. These are local stories, not established accounts of how the springs formed.
The resort
Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort stands beside the springs, with chalet-style accommodation, a swimming pool fed by spring water and forest surroundings. A Guardian Nigeria travel guide also lists a restaurant, a bar, a gym and an amphitheatre.
Facilities may have changed since those accounts. The spring-fed swimming pool is a resort facility; confirm access before planning to swim. We do not list accommodation counts or prices.
Visiting

It depends on where you go. Lagos, where most first-time visitors land, is not covered by the UK government's travel warning, but UK and Canadian advice both ask visitors to take care.
