Starlink Nigeria Price Update: Current Costs in January 2026
Starlink prices in Nigeria appear to have stabilized entering 2026, but they remain significantly higher than when the service first launched. After a turbulent 2025 filled with proposed hikes and regulatory pushbacks, users now have a clearer picture of what it costs to own and run Elon Musk’s satellite internet.
The Current Subscription Cost
As of January 2026, the Standard Residential Plan is priced at ₦57,000 per month. This reflects a 50% increase from the original ₦38,000 price tag that early adopters enjoyed.
For context, Starlink attempted to raise this fee to ₦75,000 in late 2024. However, after interventions by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the company scaled back the hike. The current rate aligns with the broader tariff increases approved for the telecom sector last year to cope with inflation and forex challenges.
Hardware Prices: Standard vs. Mini
The barrier to entry remains the upfront hardware cost.
- Standard Kit: The price for the main dish and router setup currently sits at ₦590,000. This is a one-time purchase.
- Starlink Mini: For users looking for a more portable or slightly more affordable entry point, the Starlink Mini kit is available for approximately ₦318,000.
These hardware prices are heavily influenced by the exchange rate. While the subscription fee is fixed in Naira, the hardware cost can fluctuate based on the cost of importation.
Why Is It Still So Expensive?
The primary driver for these costs is the devaluation of the Naira. Since Starlink equipment is imported, the local price must reflect the dollar equivalent. Additionally, operational costs for maintaining ground stations and network reliability have risen across the technology sector.
Despite the cost, demand remains high. Many Nigerian businesses and remote workers prefer Starlink for its reliability. In areas where fibre optic cables from providers like MTN or Glo haven't reached, satellite internet is often the only option for high-speed connectivity.
Is It Worth It?
For the average casual user, ₦57,000 monthly is a steep price compared to mobile data bundles. However, for households and offices that require unlimited data and consistent speeds above 100Mbps, it remains a competitive option.
Users should also be aware of the roaming plans. If you plan to move your device around the country frequently, the Regional Roam plans are significantly more expensive than the fixed residential plan.
We will continue to monitor the NCC’s regulatory decisions and any future price adjustments from Starlink.
