Barau Jibrin

Barau I. Jibrin CFR (born June 19, 1959) is a prominent Nigerian politician who currently serves as the Deputy President of the Senate. He is recognized for his long-standing career in both the legislative and executive arms of government, primarily representing the people of Kano State.Early Life and Education Barau Jibrin was born on June 19, 1959. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Kaduna Polytechnic. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued further education, earning a Master's degree in Financial Management and a Master's Certificate in Public Policy and Administration from Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA. His academic foundation in finance and policy provided the basis for his subsequent career in public service.Career Progression and Political Life Jibrin's career in public service began in the executive branch of government. He served as a Commissioner for Science and Technology in Kano State before successfully transitioning to federal politics. In 1999, he was elected to the Federal House of Representatives, where he represented the Tarauni Federal Constituency of Kano State. During this period, he notably served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations. Jibrin later moved to the Senate, becoming the Senator representing Kano North Senatorial District. He was first elected to this position in 2015 and has been re-elected continuously, demonstrating consistent political success in his constituency.
