Benjamin Kalu

Benjamin Okezie Kalu is a Nigerian lawyer, politician, and legislator who currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria. He is recognized for his extensive political career and legislative contributions, particularly representing the Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State. Early Life and Education Benjamin Kalu was born on May 5, 1971, in Bende, Abia State, Nigeria. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Calabar and was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar after completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School. Kalu also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, further establishing his expertise in law and governance. Career Progression Kalu began his professional career as a legal practitioner, gaining experience in private practice before transitioning into public service. His political career started with his election as the Chairman of Bende Local Government Area in Abia State. This initial experience in local governance provided the foundation for his subsequent legislative roles. He first entered the National Assembly when he was elected to the House of Representatives to represent the Bende Federal Constituency. In the 9th National Assembly (2019–2023), Kalu served as the spokesperson and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.
