Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo (17 December 1941 – 25 September 2003) was a prominent Nigerian politician, philosopher, academic, writer, and political scientist. Known for his intellectual depth and often referred to as "Oyi," he left an indelible mark on Nigeria's political landscape, particularly during the Fourth Republic.Early Life and Education Chuba Okadigbo was born on December 17, 1941, in Asaba, which was then part of the Western Region of Nigeria and is now the capital of Delta State. He was, however, a native of Oyi Local Government Area in Anambra State, Nigeria, and of Igbo descent. Okadigbo was known for his rigorous pursuit of education across multiple continents. He began his studies in Nigeria before traveling abroad, earning his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science from the Black Hills State University in the United States. He subsequently obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Political Science from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., and later a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Political Science from the same institution, cementing his intellectual foundation.Career Progression and Major Achievements Before entering active politics, Okadigbo pursued a distinguished academic career, lecturing in political science and philosophy at various universities both in Nigeria and the United States. His transition into the political arena began during Nigeria's Second Republic (1979–1983). **Political Roles:** * **Special Adviser to the President:** He served as a Special Adviser on Political Affairs to President Shehu Shagari during the Second Republic. * **Senator and Senate President:** Following Nigeria's return to democratic rule in 1999, Okadigbo was elected to the Senate representing Anambra North Senatorial District. He quickly rose to prominence and was elected as the 8th President of the Nigerian Senate, serving from 1999 to 2000.
