Faithia Williams: Nigerian Actress, Filmmaker, Producer, and Director Faithia Williams (born 5 February 1969 in Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria) is a highly prominent Nigerian actress, filmmaker, producer, and director. She is recognized for her significant contributions to the Nigerian film industry, commonly known as Nollywood, particularly within the Yoruba-language sector. Williams is of Urhobo descent from Delta State, in the South-South region of Nigeria. Early Life and Education Born into a polygamous family of nine, Faithia Williams was raised in Lagos State. She attended Maryland Primary School and Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School in Lagos, where she obtained her West African School Certificate. Pursuing higher education, she received a diploma certificate from Kwara State Polytechnic. In 2016, she gained admission to Olabisi Onabanjo University to further her studies in Filming. Career Progression Williams' entry into acting was unexpected; she became an actress by chance when her uncle, Alhaji Fatai Teniola, requested her to stand in for an actress who failed to show up for a production. She took on her first role in the film titled "Ta lo pa chief." Since her debut, she has had a prolific career spanning decades, encompassing acting, filmmaking, producing, and directing. Her talent and versatility have established her as one of the most successful and recognized figures in the industry. Major Achievements and Notable Works Throughout her career, Faithia Williams has received several prestigious awards. In 2008, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Most Outstanding Indigenous Actress. She received another AMAA for Best Actress of the Year in April 2014. In 2015, she won the Best Indigenous Language award for her work in the film *Iya Alalake* at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA). Her notable works include *Eku Eda* (2006), *Aje meta* (2008), *Farayola* (2009), *Shola Arikusa* (2017), and *10 Days In Sun City* (2017). Her film *Iranse Aje* also earned the award for Best Indigenous Film in 2008. Current Status Faithia Williams remains active in the film industry, continuing to produce, direct, and star in new Nigerian movies. She maintains a significant public presence, particularly on social media platforms like Instagram, where she engages with her extensive fanbase. She was previously married to fellow actor Saheed Balogun, with whom she shares children. She also has a son from an earlier relationship.
