**Segun Agbaje: Nigerian Banking Executive** Olusegun Agbaje, born in 1964, is a prominent Nigerian banking executive. He is best known for his long tenure at Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) and his role in transforming it into one of Nigeria's leading financial institutions and a prominent holding company, GTCO Plc.Early Life and Education Segun Agbaje was born to Chief Julius Kosebinu Agbaje and Mrs. Margaret Olabisi Agbaje. His father was a banker, and his mother was a teacher. He received his secondary education at St. Gregory's College, Obalende, Lagos State. For his higher education, Agbaje moved to the United States, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of San Francisco, USA. He is also an alumnus of the Harvard Business School.Career Progression and Achievements Agbaje began his career in the banking sector and joined Guaranty Trust Bank in 1991. He rose steadily through the ranks, holding various strategic positions within the organization. In 2002, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director. His career culminated in his appointment as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Bank plc in July 2011, succeeding the late Tayo Aderinokun. During his leadership as Managing Director, Agbaje guided GTBank through a period of significant growth and regulatory change, overseeing a focus on digital innovation and customer service.Notable Works and Current Status Agbaje’s major achievement includes leading the bank’s transition into a holding company structure, officially becoming Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO Plc) in 2021. This restructure expanded the organization’s capacity to offer non-banking financial services across various subsidiaries in West Africa and Europe. Following the restructure, Segun Agbaje was appointed as the inaugural Group Chief Executive Officer of GTCO Plc. His continued leadership is focused on maintaining the group's reputation for corporate governance and financial efficiency while driving its expansion into new business verticals.
