Selebobo
Overview
Udoka Chigozie Oku, widely known by his stage name Selebobo, is a prominent Nigerian singer, songwriter, producer, and mixing engineer. He is recognized for his significant contributions to the Afro-pop, R&B, and hip-hop genres in the Nigerian music industry. **Early Life and Education** Selebobo was born Udoka Chigozie Oku on July 29, 1992, in Enugu State, Nigeria. He hails from Anambra State. His upbringing was immersed in music and art, as his father, Goddy Oku, was a well-known guitarist and musician who played throughout the 1970s. This familial environment nurtured Selebobo's multi-faceted talents; he began recording at the age of seven in his father's studio, Godiac Studios, in Enugu. By the age of twelve, he was already producing music using a Yamaha Djx keyboard. Selebobo attended primary and secondary school in Enugu State. He later pursued higher education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. **Career Progression and Major Achievements** Selebobo began his professional music career by focusing on writing and producing songs. His breakout moment arrived in 2013 with the release of his hit single "Yoyo," which featured J. Martins. Following this success, he signed with the notable record label Made Men Music Group (MMMG). He gained massive recognition not only as an artist but also as an exceptionally talented producer. One of his most notable works is producing the highly popular song "Johnny" for fellow Nigerian artist Yemi Alade in 2014. The track became a massive success, accumulating over a hundred million views online and cementing Selebobo's reputation as a hitmaker. His notable singles also include "Selfie" and "Waka Waka." Throughout his career, he has collaborated with and produced for other popular artists such as Flavour N'abania, Tekno, Iyanya, and Davido. **Current Status** In 2018, Selebobo was nominated for Producer of the Year at The Headies awards, and he has also won the Best Collaboration of the Year Award and was named Best Producer at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Selebobo departed from Made Men Music Group in 2019 to establish his own record label, named "Vault." This move allowed him greater control over his creative output and provided a platform to mentor other artists. In 2021, he notably worked as a producer on Rudeboy's debut solo album, *Rudykillus*. Selebobo continues to be active in the music scene as both a producer and an artist.
