Tajudeen Abbas

**Tajudeen Abbas** (born October 1, 1963) is a Nigerian academic, politician, and legislator who currently serves as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. A distinguished figure in both academia and public service, he is known for his extensive experience in legislative processes and his focus on educational development. He holds the princely title of *Iyan Zazzau*.Early Life and Education Tajudeen Abbas was born in Kaduna State, Nigeria. He is originally from the Zazzau Emirate. He pursued his higher education at Ahmadu Bello University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1988 and a master’s degree in 1993. Demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning, he later obtained a doctorate in business management from Usmanu Danfodiyo University in 2010. Prior to his political career, Abbas dedicated two decades of his life to academia, where he was a lecturer at the Kaduna State University and later served as a director at the National Teachers’ Institute.Career Progression and Major Achievements Abbas transitioned from a career in education to legislative politics, initially serving as the Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011, representing the Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, and was re-elected multiple times, making him one of the most experienced members of the Green Chamber. Throughout his time as a federal legislator, Abbas established a reputation for diligence, parliamentary knowledge, and effectiveness. He served in various capacities, including Chairman of the House Committee on Land Transport. In June 2023, following the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, Tajudeen Abbas was elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, succeeding Femi Gbajabiamila. His election was a significant endorsement of his legislative background and political acumen.Current Status As of 2024, Tajudeen Abbas holds the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and continues to represent the Zaria Federal Constituency. His current focus is leading the legislative agenda of the 10th Assembly, including addressing national economic and security issues.
