Wura-Natasha Ogunji (born 1970) is a Nigerian-American visual artist and performer known for her multidisciplinary work that explores themes of physicality, the body, space, memory, and history, particularly in relation to women occupying public spaces in Lagos, Nigeria. She works primarily in performance art, video art, and drawings hand-stitched into tracing paper. Ogunji was born in 1970 and is of Nigerian descent, currently basing her practice between Lagos, Nigeria, and Austin, Texas. For her education, she attended Stanford University, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology in 1992. She later earned a Master's in Fine Arts Photography from San Jose State University in 1998. Ogunji’s career is marked by her compelling performance and video-based works. Her artistic themes often focus on the movement and presence of the female body in public environments. Her drawings, characterized by hand-stitching on tracing paper, are another integral part of her practice. Throughout her career, Ogunji has gained international recognition, participating in numerous significant global art events, including the Biennale of Sydney, the Stellenbosch Triennale, the Bienal de São Paulo, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. In 2023, she made her New York solo debut at the Fridman Gallery. Her work is also held in major institutional collections, such as the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
