Police Arrest 25-Year-Old Man for Beating His Mother in Kano, Recover Firearm
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Ididiong James, for allegedly assaulting his mother and being in unlawful possession of a firearm.
The incident occurred at the suspect's residence in Panshekara Quarters, Kano.
Mother Turns In Son After Assault
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, officers attached to the Panshekara Division responded to a distress call on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m.. Upon arrival, they discovered that James was physically assaulting his mother.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene when the police arrived. However, his mother subsequently handed over a Beretta pistol and eight rounds of ammunition to the officers, stating she had discovered the weapon in her son's bag. She explained that her refusal to return the firearm to him had triggered his violent attack.
Arrest and Investigation
The police later apprehended James, who is now in custody.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the woman's bravery for standing up against the violence and reporting the illegal weapon. The police urged other parents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities by their wards to the authorities.
