Troops Crush Terror Cells, Free 62 Hostages in Northwest Offensive
The Nigerian military has recorded a significant victory in the ongoing war against terror, successfully rescuing 62 hostages in a major offensive across the Northwest.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba confirmed that the coordinated operations targeted notorious bandit hideouts in Zamfara and Kebbi States.
Breaking the Stronghold
The operation in Zamfara involved a daring raid on a known bandit enclave. Acting on precise intelligence, troops stormed the camp, overwhelming the criminals and freeing dozens of captives who had been held in harrowing conditions.
Simultaneously, in Kebbi State, troops set up a strategic ambush near the border with Sokoto. This operation specifically targeted the "Lakurawa" terror group, a dangerous faction operating in the region. During the exchange, two militants were neutralized, and vital intelligence on the group's movements was secured.
"All 62 rescued hostages are currently in safe custody," Lt. Col. Osoba stated. "We are working tirelessly to reunite them with their families".
A Glimmer of Hope
This operational success comes as a morale booster for the nation, which has been reeling from recent security setbacks. Just days ago, ACF and CAN demanded immediate action following the mass abduction of worshippers in Kaduna. The military's swift response in the Northwest demonstrates their capacity to turn the tide.
Furthermore, with Governor Uba Sani planning a new military base in Kajuru, the pressure is mounting on criminal networks from multiple fronts to secure the region.
