The University of Ibadan (UI) has reclaimed its position as Nigeria's number one tertiary institution in the latest 2026 rankings released by Times Higher Education (THE).
According to the new report published this week, UI surpassed other prestigious institutions to take the top spot. The ranking places the university in the 801–1000 band globally, a significant achievement that underscores its academic resilience.

Notably, private institutions continue to make their mark. Covenant University and Landmark University rounded out the top five, cementing their reputation as leading centers for academic excellence in the private sector.
