**Adebayo Adekola Adelabu** (born September 28, 1970) is a Nigerian financial expert, corporate executive, and politician who currently serves as a Minister of Power in Nigeria. Prior to his political career, Adelabu was a prominent figure in the Nigerian banking sector, notably serving as the Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).Early Life and Education Adelabu was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. He is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where he graduated with a First Class degree in Accounting. He subsequently became a chartered accountant and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Furthering his education, Adelabu obtained a distinction in the Advanced Management Program (AMP) from the Harvard Business School, USA.Career Progression and Major Achievements Adelabu began his professional career at PriceWaterhouse (now PwC) in 1992, where he spent several years honing his expertise in auditing and consulting. He transitioned into the banking industry, holding high-ranking positions at various Nigerian commercial banks. He served as the Executive Director/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, leading the bank’s finance and performance management. His career reached a pinnacle in 2014 when he was appointed by the President of Nigeria as the Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability (FSS) at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). In this role, he was a key driver of financial policy and supervision, contributing significantly to maintaining the stability and resilience of the Nigerian financial system.Political Career and Current Status After completing his five-year term at the CBN in 2018, Adelabu ventured into politics. He contested the 2019 Governorship election in Oyo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although he did not win, he remained an active figure in Nigerian politics. In 2023, he was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve in the Federal Executive Council. He currently holds the position of Minister of Power, where he is tasked with overseeing the development, policy implementation, and regulatory compliance within Nigeria's critical power sector.
