Yusuf Tuggar

Yusuf Maitama Tuggar OON (born 12 March 1967) is a distinguished Nigerian diplomat and politician. He is currently serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a role he assumed in August 2023. Recognized for his extensive experience in international relations and political service, Tuggar has held significant positions, including serving as Nigeria's Ambassador to Germany.Early Life and Education Yusuf Maitama Tuggar was born on March 12, 1967. After completing his education, he spent several years in the private sector, notably as the chief executive officer of Nordic Oil and Gas Services, an energy consulting firm. During this period, he was also a noted contributor of political and economic opinions to Nigerian newspapers and magazines, demonstrating an early interest in public affairs.Political and Diplomatic Career Tuggar's political career began with his election to the Nigerian House of Representatives, where he represented the Gamawa constituency of Bauchi State from 2007 to 2011. During his tenure, he was a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). Following his term in the House, he ran twice for the office of the governor of Bauchi State. In September 2017, Tuggar was appointed as the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany by President Muhammadu Buhari. He served in this critical diplomatic post until August 2023, enhancing Nigeria's bilateral relationship with Germany.Current Status and Major Achievements On August 21, 2023, Tuggar completed his diplomatic term and was sworn in by Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the 29th Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
