Overview
Chidinma Ekile, known mononymously as Chidinma, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress who gained prominence in the African music industry after winning the third season of *Project Fame West Africa* in 2010. She is recognized for her early contributions to the Afropop genre and her subsequent transition to gospel music and Christian ministry.Early Life and Education Chidinma Ekile was born on May 2, 1991, in Ketu, Kosofe, Lagos State, Nigeria, and is a native of Imo State. She is the sixth of seven children. Having grown up under a disciplinarian father, she began singing at the age of six. Her early life and educational pursuits in Lagos paved the way for her musical career.Career Progression and Achievements Chidinma’s professional career launched in 2010 when she auditioned for and subsequently won the third season of the reality music competition, *Project Fame West Africa*. Following this victory, she signed with record label Capital Hill Records and released her eponymous debut album, *Chidinma*, via the music platform Spinlet. The debut album yielded successful singles, including "Jankoliko," "Carry You Go," "Kedike," and "Run Dia Mouth." Her profile rose significantly with the success of "Kedike." A major international achievement came in 2012 when Chidinma won the Best Female West African Act at the prestigious Kora Awards, where she also performed her hit song "Kedike." Her award plaque was presented by renowned football star Didier Drogba. Throughout her secular music career, Chidinma continued to release popular singles and collaborate with other prominent Nigerian artists. Notable works include the release of "Oh Baby" in 2013, followed by the Flavour N'abania-assisted remix, "Oh Baby (You & I)," in 2014. She also received several awards and nominations, including Best Female West Africa at the African Muzik Magazine Awards and Best Female at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2014, and various accolades at The Headies and Nigeria Entertainment Awards.Transition to Gospel Music and Current Status In May 2021, Chidinma announced a significant transition from secular music to full-time gospel music and Christian ministry, aligning with what she stated was a prophecy and divine ordination. Upon this transition, she adopted the titles "Minister Chidinma" and "Mummy GO." Her first gospel single, "Jehovah Overdo," was released the same month as her announcement. This was followed by her debut extended play (EP), *New Season*, released on August 20, 2021, which was entirely produced by EeZee Tee. She continued her gospel work with the release of her second studio album, *Psalm 16*, on October 14, 2022, featuring collaborations with gospel artists like KS Bloom, Indira, and Buchi. Chidinma remains active in her ministry and continues to release music focused on Christian worship.
