Overview
Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo (born January 6, 1981, in Calabar, Cross River State) is a highly respected Nigerian music producer, singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. Visually impaired from birth, Asuquo rose to prominence as a key figure in the Nigerian music industry, known for his exceptional skill in production and songwriting, particularly within the Pop, R&B, and Afrobeats genres.Early Life and Education Cobhams Asuquo grew up in a military family and, despite facing early challenges including bullying that almost caused him to drop out of school, he pursued his passion for music. He began his academic training in law but ultimately shifted his focus entirely to his music career. He possesses proficiency in several instruments, including the piano and guitar.Career Progression and Major Achievements Asuquo's music career officially began around 1999. He gained initial recognition working as the Head of Audio Productions at the local record label, Questionmark Entertainment. In 2006, he established his own recording facility. He is the former CEO/Head of Productions of CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Productions), which he co-managed with artists Bez Idakula and Stan Iyke. He is currently the Founder/CEO of Vintage Grey Media. One of his most significant career achievements was producing Aṣa’s internationally acclaimed debut album, *Aṣa* (2007). He wrote or co-wrote several major singles on the album, including "Fire on the Mountain" and "Jailer," solidifying his reputation as a world-class producer.Notable Works As a music producer, Asuquo is credited on the albums and songs of numerous major artists across Africa and beyond. His work with Aṣa remains highly notable. As an artist, Asuquo released his first music video for the single "Ordinary People" in 2015. Other released singles include "Do the Right Thing" featuring Bez (2015), the Christmas song "Star of Wonder" (2015), "Boosit" featuring Falz (2016), and "The Other Room." His single "We Plenti" featuring Simi was released on January 6, 2019. He also produced 74 episodes of "The Top 12 Countdown with Cobhams Asuquo," a music countdown show.Personal Life Cobhams Asuquo is visually impaired. He married Ojuolape Veronica Olukanni on December 2, 2010. They have a son together.Current Status Cobhams Asuquo remains an active and influential figure in the music industry as a music producer, songwriter, and singer, with a career spanning over two decades. He continues to manage his media company, Vintage Grey Media.
