Dapo Abiodun

Dapo Abiodun, fully known as Prince Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun, MFR, is a Nigerian politician and businessman currently serving as the Governor of Ogun State. Early Life and Education Dapo Abiodun was born on May 29, 1960, into the family of Dr. Emmanuel and Mrs. Victoria Abiodun of Iperu-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. His parents were both teachers. He attended Christ's School Ado Ekiti in 1972, St. Joseph's College, Ondo, in 1977, and later Ondo High School in 1978. Career Progression Before entering politics, Abiodun had a successful career in the business sector, particularly in the oil and gas industry. He is the chairman and CEO of Heyden Petroleum, a major player in Nigeria's energy sector. He has also held executive and non-executive roles on the boards of numerous reputable companies, reflecting his extensive experience in corporate governance and management. In his political career, Abiodun has been actively involved in Nigerian politics for several years. He served as a Senatorial candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District in 2015. His most significant political achievement came in 2019 when he contested and won the gubernatorial election in Ogun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Major Achievements and Notable Works As Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun's administration has focused on various sectors under his "Building Our Future Together" agenda, prioritizing security, infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, and youth empowerment. His notable works include massive construction and rehabilitation of roads across the three senatorial districts of the state, particularly focusing on crucial interstate and intra-city routes. He also launched initiatives aimed at boosting the local economy and attracting foreign investment. In the agricultural sector, his administration initiated several programs to encourage farming and increase food production. Current Status As of the present, Dapo Abiodun is serving as the Governor of Ogun State, Nigeria. He was re-elected for a second term in 2023, solidifying his mandate to continue steering the affairs of the state. He holds the national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
