Early Life and Education Born in Kano, Nigeria, Melaye is a native of Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. He attended Command Primary School in Kaduna State and later studied at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography in 2000. During his university years, Melaye served as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), marking his formal entry into political and activist circles. He furthered his education with numerous professional certifications and post-graduate studies, including a certificate in Leadership from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. Career Progression and Political Journey Melaye began his public career as an anti-corruption and pro-democracy activist, aligning himself with various non-governmental organizations dedicated to good governance. His political career officially launched when he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu constituency of Kogi State, from 2007 to 2011. In 2015, he achieved national prominence by being elected to the Senate, representing Kogi West under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). During his tenure in the Senate, Melaye served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Senate Committee on Aviation.
