Overview
Nonso Temisan Ajufo, widely known as DJ Big N, is a prominent Nigerian Disk Jockey (DJ), mixer, and recording artist primarily recognized for his work within the Afrobeats, house, hip hop, and R&B genres. Active since 2007, he is notably the official DJ for Mavin Records, one of Nigeria’s leading entertainment labels.Early Life and Education DJ Big N was born in Lagos State, Nigeria, to Nigerian parents. He is the second half of a set of twins and has a twin sister. For his primary education, he attended Corona Primary School in Victoria Island, Lagos, and later King's College, Lagos. Seeking to further his education, he moved to the United Kingdom. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Psychology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Coventry University in England.Career Progression and Mavin Records DJ Big N launched his career in the United Kingdom, where he began playing at local clubs in the West Midlands before securing guest spots at venues like the Palms Club in Coventry and Club "Release." His career trajectory significantly shifted upon his return to Nigeria and his association with Mavin Records. He became an active member of the Mavin Records Dynasty in 2013 and was officially appointed as the official DJ for Mavin artist Dr Sid in February 2014. He quickly expanded his role, becoming the official DJ for the subsequent Mavin UK tour. Since then, he has served as the official DJ for Mavin Records and was notably the DJ for Rema's first America tour.Notable Works and Achievements As a key figure in the Mavin Records camp, DJ Big N has played a crucial role in promoting the label's music through a series of official mixtapes. In September 2014, he released the first-ever official Mavin mixtape, titled the "Mavin All Stars Mixtape." Other popular mixtapes he has released include the 'Surulere Mixtape Volume 1' and the "ENERGY Mixtape." After establishing his reputation behind the turntable, DJ Big N transitioned into releasing his own singles, collaborating with numerous high-profile Afrobeat artists. His notable discography includes singles such as "Gbegiri" (2016) featuring Korede Bello, CDQ, and Terry Apala; "Anything" (2017) featuring Tiwa Savage and Burna Boy; "The Trilogy" (2018) featuring Reekado Banks, Iyanya, and Ycee; "My Dear" featuring Kizz Daniel and Don Jazzy; and "Jowo" (2019) featuring Mr. Eazi. DJ Big N has also received recognition for his influence in the music industry, winning several awards, including the City People Music Awards for DJ of the Year (Male) and the Nigerian Choice Awards for DJ of the Year. He has also won the Afrima Award for Best DJ Africa.Current Status DJ Big N continues to be an active and influential figure in the Nigerian and African music scenes. He remains the official DJ for Mavin Records. In January 2025, he survived a robbery and shooting incident in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was ambushed and shot in the leg while in his car.
