DJ Spinall Oluseye Desmond Sodamola (born in Lagos State, Nigeria), widely known by his stage name DJ Spinall, is a prominent Nigerian record producer, media personality, disc jockey, songwriter, and record executive. He is highly recognized as one of the pioneers who brought Afrobeats DJ culture to the global stage. Early Life and Education Born in Lagos State, Nigeria, Oluseye Desmond Sodamola pursued formal training in music and media. He studied at the Tenstrings Music Institute and later attended Olabisi Onabanjo University. His early career ambition led him to gain prominence in the Nigerian media space starting in 2004. Career Progression and TheCAPMusic Spinall began his professional career as a radio DJ at Raypower 100.5 FM in 2004, establishing his signature style, "The CAP," which is a distinct style edge to his outfit tracing back to his culture and symbolizing musical excellence. In 2014, he formalized his entrepreneurial ventures by launching TheCAPMusic, a record label and management company focused on expanding the reach of African DJs and music talent. Notable Works and Major Achievements As a producer and artist, DJ Spinall has released several successful albums, including *Iyanu* (2018), *Grace* (2020), and *Top Boy* (2023). His discography features numerous hit singles and collaborations with high-profile artists in the Afrobeats and international music scenes, such as "Gba Gbe E" (featuring Burna Boy), "Nowo" (featuring Wizkid), "Sere" (featuring Fireboy DML), "Cloud 9" (featuring Adekunle Gold), and "Palazzo" (featuring Asake). Spinall has garnered numerous awards throughout his career, including multiple wins at The Beatz Awards and the Africa Muzik Magazine Awards & Music Festival (AFRIMMA) for Best DJ Africa. A hallmark of his global influence is being the first Nigerian disc jockey to perform at major international festivals, including Coachella, SXSW, and Glastonbury. Current Status Maintaining a strong presence in the global music industry, Spinall continues to perform at major international events. In 2022, he opened for Bruno Mars on tour in Australia and DJed for Jay-Z at his Oscars after party, in addition to being the closing act for the MTV Europe Music Awards. He performed at festivals such as Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival and Listen Out in 2023. As of 2024, he maintains his role as a leading figure in Afrobeats, actively releasing new music and managing TheCAPMusic.
