Sidney Onoriode Esiri (born May 1, 1980), widely known by his stage name Dr Sid, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and dentist. He is a prominent figure in the Nigerian Afropop and Afrobeats scenes, recognized for his association with Mo’ Hits Records and later Mavin Records, and for blending music with his background in medicine. Early Life and Education Dr Sid was born in London, United Kingdom, to the late veteran Nigerian actor Justus Esiri, and his mother, a successful fashion designer. He spent his early years in Lagos, Nigeria, where he attended the Nigerian Navy Primary School, Lagos. He continued his secondary education at the Federal Government College, Ijanikin, before proceeding to the University of Ibadan to study Dental Surgery. After graduating, he briefly practiced dentistry, fulfilling his family's expectation of him pursuing a medical career, before fully transitioning into music. Career Progression Dr Sid's music career began developing in the early 2000s while he was still in university. In 2002, he joined the defunct hip-hop group The Trybesmen as a choreographer and later as a backup vocalist. After The Trybesmen disbanded, he focused on his dentistry practice while still recording music. His pivotal moment came in 2007 when he signed with Mo’ Hits Records, co-founded by Don Jazzy and D'banj. Under this label, he released his debut studio album, *Turning Point* (2010), which spawned several hit singles and established him as a frontline artist. Major Achievements and Notable Works When Mo' Hits Records dissolved in 2012, Dr Sid followed Don Jazzy to become a founding member of the newly formed Mavin Records. Under Mavin, he released his second album, *Siduction* (2013). Dr Sid is celebrated for his unique sound, which often incorporates R\&B and hip-hop elements into the Afrobeats structure. His most notable singles include "Pop Something," "Surulere," "Kabiyesi," "If I Die," and "Lady Don Dada." His work earned him several accolades, including nominations at the Headies and the Channel O Music Video Awards. Current Status Dr Sid remains an active figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, contributing to Mavin Records both as an artist and executive.
