Overview
Folake Folarin-Coker, born Folake Folarin in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1974, is a highly regarded Nigerian fashion designer and the creative director of the pioneering womenswear brand Tiffany Amber. She is of Yoruba descent, tracing her roots to Ibadan. For her early education, Folarin-Coker studied in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Demonstrating a strong academic foundation, she initially pursued a path in law, obtaining a postgraduate degree in petroleum law before ultimately returning to Nigeria to pursue her profound interest in fashion. Folarin-Coker launched her fashion house, "Tiffany Amber," in Lagos in 1998. The brand is credited with being one of the first contemporary luxury Nigerian womenswear labels, playing a significant role in elevating African fashion onto the global stage. Her career progression has seen her brand expand to include four standalone stores and boutiques in key Nigerian cities, including Lagos and Abuja. She has consistently showcased her designs in fashion shows across Africa, Europe, and the United States. Among her major achievements, Folarin-Coker became the first recipient of the "Designer of the Year" award at the African Fashion Week in Johannesburg in 2009. A notable milestone in her career was receiving an invitation in 2012 from the late *Vogue Italia* editor, Franca Sozzani, to participate in the Fashion for Development Project, underscoring her international recognition and influence. Tiffany Amber is her principal notable work, representing her vision and contribution to fashion. As of her current status, Folake Folarin-Coker remains the Founder and Creative Director of Tiffany Amber. She was previously married to businessman Folorunsho Coker.
