Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus (born May 21, 1997), widely known by his stage name Joeboy, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is recognized as a prominent figure in the contemporary Afropop and Afrobeats genres, known for his distinct vocal style and catchy melodies. Early Life and Education Joeboy was born on May 21, 1997, in Lagos State, Nigeria. His father is from Ogun State and his mother is from Ondo State. He grew up in a musical family; his father played the keyboard in church, and his older brother played the guitar, which fostered an early interest in music. He attended the University of Lagos, where he studied Human Resources. Career Progression and Notable Works Joeboy began his musical career in 2017. He gained initial recognition after releasing a cover of Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You," which caught the attention of Nigerian music executive and artist Mr. Eazi, who is based in Ghana. This led to Joeboy joining Mr. Eazi's mentorship program, EmPawa Africa. His breakthrough came with the release of the single "Baby" in March 2019, which achieved commercial success across West Africa. This was quickly followed by another hit single, "Beginning," later that year. In November 2019, Joeboy released his debut EP, *Love and Light*, which featured these popular tracks.
