John Ighodaro (born July 5, 1990), widely known by his stage name Johnny Drille, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer prominent for his alternative and folk music style, a rarity in the mainstream Nigerian music scene dominated by Afrobeats. His music is often characterized by soulful vocals, introspective lyrics, and acoustic arrangements, drawing comparisons to international artists like Ed Sheeran and James Blunt.Early Life and Education Johnny Drille was born in Edo State, Nigeria, and is the fifth of seven children. He grew up in a very religious household, with his father being a pastor. His interest in music developed early, starting with singing in the local church choir. He began playing instruments, including the keyboard and guitar, and honed his production skills by experimenting with digital audio workstations. He holds a degree in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Benin (UNIBEN).Career Progression and Major Achievements Drille began his professional music career in 2013, participating in the sixth season of the reality music competition, Project Fame West Africa.
