**Mai Atafo** (born **Ohimai Atafo**) is a highly acclaimed Nigerian fashion designer, known for his eponymous fashion brand, Mai Atafo. He is recognized as a master couturier who has significantly influenced modern African luxury fashion, specializing in bespoke menswear and bridal wear.Early Life and Education Ohimai Atafo was born in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, into a family of nine children. While growing up, his first passion was music, and he initially aspired to be a musician. Atafo pursued formal education in the United Kingdom, graduating from the City, University of London. To refine his craft in fashion, he later underwent specialized training as a skilled tailor at the prestigious Savile Row Academy in Leeds, United Kingdom.Career Progression and Achievements Mai Atafo transitioned from a corporate career, holding a role as Strategy Director at the advertising agency Firehouse Group, to dedicating himself fully to fashion. In 2010, he founded his brand, Mai Atafo Inspired (now simply Mai Atafo). His aesthetic focuses on bridging African traditions with global luxury standards, establishing his signature style in high-end suits, tuxedos, and wedding gowns. Atafo's influence extends beyond design; he has actively worked to elevate African luxury to a globally relevant standard. His notable achievements include winning the Designer of the Year award at the Glitz Style Awards and the Menswear Designer of the Year award at the Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week. He also received the Lifestyle/Style Fashion Icon Achievement at the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards.Current Status Mai Atafo currently serves as the Creative Director of his brand, Mai Atafo Inspired, continuing to produce bespoke luxury garments. In addition to his fashion work, he remains involved in the corporate sector as the Strategy Director at the Firehouse Group and heads The Future Awards Central working committee. He previously served as an emcee for the Miss Nigeria Pageant in 2010. He is married to Christine Atafo, and they have one child.
