Omawumi Boma Megbele (born April 13, 1982), widely known mononymously as Omawumi, is a prominent Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She is recognized for her unique blend of Soul music, R\&B, pop, and Afropop, and gained significant public attention as the runner-up of the first season of the *West African Idols* reality TV show in 2007.Early Life and Education Omawumi was born on April 13, 1982, in Delta State, Nigeria, to Chief Dr. Frank and Mrs. Aya Megbele. She grew up in Warri, Delta State. For her primary education, she attended Nana Primary School and later attended the College of Education Demonstration Secondary School. Omawumi pursued higher education at Ambrose Alli University, where she successfully obtained a degree in Law. After graduating in 2005, she relocated to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and worked at her family's law firm, "O.S Megbele & Associates." She also studied French at Alliance Francaise.Career Progression Omawumi’s professional music career was launched when she participated in the inaugural season of the *West African Idols* in 2007, where she emerged as the runner-up. This performance launched her into the national spotlight. In September 2008, she released her debut single, "In The Music." Her debut album, *Wonderwoman*, followed on November 11, 2009. The album was characterized by an amalgamation of genres, including the kwaito production of the lead single. Her second album, *The Lasso of Truth*, was released on April 10, 2013, and proved to be a commercial success in Nigeria, continuing the narrative from her debut album by drawing inspiration from the character Wonder Woman. She subsequently released the album *Timeless* in 2017 and the EP *In Her Feelings* on June 14, 2019, which incorporated Afro-fusion, Jazz, and R\&B elements. Her fourth studio album, *Love Deep High Life (LDHL)*, was released in 2021 and featured collaborations with artists like Phyno, Waje, Brymo, and Ric Hassani.Notable Works and Major Achievements As a musician, Omawumi is celebrated for her powerful voice and diverse artistry. She operates under her own label, Oma Records, and is also involved in public campaigns, such as "Rise with the Energy of Africa." She is married to Oluwatosin Yussuf, whom she wed in January 2015.
