Rudeboy
Overview
Paul Okoye (born November 18, 1981), widely known by his stage name Rudeboy, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is a prominent figure in the Nigerian music industry, initially rising to fame as one half of the highly influential music duo P-Square before launching a successful solo career in Afrobeats. Early Life and Education Paul Okoye was born in Jos, Nigeria, alongside his twin brother, Peter Okoye (Mr P). He attended St. Murumba secondary school in Jos, where he and his brother, Peter, were involved in music and drama. Paul and Peter joined a school music and drama club, where they honed their dancing and performing skills, often covering songs by international artists like MC Hammer, Bobby Brown, and Michael Jackson. Career Progression and P-Square Rudeboy and his brother formed the musical group P-Square, which quickly became one of Africa’s most successful and influential music acts. P-Square released numerous chart-topping albums and singles, gaining international recognition for their blend of Afropop, R\&B, and hip-hop. The duo disbanded in 2017. Solo Career, Achievements, and Notable Works Following the split of P-Square in 2017, Rudeboy commenced his solo career. He released his debut solo tracks, "Fire Fire" and "Nkenji Keke," in 2017, marking his transition as a standalone artist. A major career highlight came in 2019 when his single “Reason With Me” became the most-viewed music video on YouTube in Africa for that year. In 2019, he founded his own record label, Fire Department Inc. His debut solo studio album, *Rudykillus*, was released in 2021. Rudeboy continues to be regarded as one of Nigeria's best acts, with a strong stage presence and significant contributions to African music.
