Simisola Bolatito Kosoko (née Ogunleye; born April 19, 1988), popularly known by her stage name Simi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She is a prominent figure in the Nigerian music industry, known for her unique fusion of Afropop, soul, and R&B, characterized by her distinct voice and introspective lyrics often sung in a blend of English and Yoruba. Early Life and Education Simi was born in Ojuelegba, a suburb of Surulere, Lagos State. She is the last of four children and was raised by a single mother following the separation of her parents when she was nine. Her interest in music began early, rooted in her experience singing and dancing as a member of her local church's teenage choir. She attended Stars International College, Ikorodu, and subsequently graduated from Covenant University with a degree in Mass Communication. Career Progression Simi began her professional music career in 2008, starting as a gospel singer with the release of her debut album, *Ogaju*. However, her shift to mainstream music in 2014, marked by the release of the single "Tiff," gained her widespread recognition. "Tiff" was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015. In 2016, Simi signed with X3M Music, under which she released popular singles like "Jamb Question" and "Love Don't Care." Her breakthrough came with the release of her critically acclaimed second studio album, *Simisola* (2017), which spawned hits such as "Joromi" and "Original Baby." The album cemented her place as a leading voice in Afropop. In 2019, following the expiration of her contract with X3M Music, she launched her independent record label, Studio Brat. She has since released other successful projects, including her fourth studio album *To Be Honest* (2022). Major Achievements and Notable Works Simi's music is noted for its high-quality production and relatable themes, earning her numerous accolades. She won the Best Vocal Performance (Female) at The Headies 2016 for "Love Don't Care" and Album of the Year at The Headies 2018 for *Simisola*. She also served as a judge on the seventh season of the reality TV show, *Nigerian Idol*, further diversifying her career portfolio. Her notable works include the EPs *Restless* (2014) and *Chemistry* (2016, a collaboration with Falz), and the albums *Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 1* (2019) and *To Be Honest* (2022). She is also recognized for her singles "Duduke," "Smile For Me," and "Know You" (with Ladipoe). In addition to music, Simi made her acting debut in the 2019 movie *Mokalik* (Mechanic). Current Status Simi remains active in the music industry, consistently releasing new music and performing globally. She is married to fellow Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold, and they have one child. Through her independent label, Studio Brat, she continues to champion artistic freedom and creativity within the Afrobeats landscape.
