Overview
Raoul John Njeng-Njeng (born April 1, 1991), widely known by his stage name Skales, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter who is recognized for his contributions to the Nigerian hip hop and R&B music genres. He has maintained a significant presence in the Nigerian music industry since the 2000s.Early Life and Education Skales was born and raised in Kaduna State, Nigeria, but is a native of Edo State. He grew up in a single-parent household and was raised by his mother, who worked various menial jobs to support the family. His early interest in music was sparked by regularly spending time at his mother's cassette store. He pursued his higher education at the University of Jos (Unijos), where he first met producers Jeremiah Gyang and Jesse Jagz. While attending Unijos, Skales entered the Zain Tru Search competition (2008) and won the North Central region category. He later left Unijos and earned a degree in office management and technology from Lead City University.Career Progression Skales signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2009 after meeting Banky W. During his time at E.M.E, he released two singles simultaneously, "Mukulu" and "Keresimesi" (both produced by Sarz). He was also a featured artist on the label’s compilation album, *Empire Mates State of Mind* (2012), and participated in the subsequent U.S. and London tours with E.M.E artists, including Wizkid. In May 2014, Skales left E.M.E and established his independent record label, OHK Music. His first single under his own imprint, "Shake Body," produced by Jay Pizzle, became a notable hit and served as the lead single for his debut album.Major Achievements and Notable Works Skales’s debut studio album, *Man of the Year*, was released in 2015. His well-known songs include "Shake Body," "Mukulu," "Keresimesi," "Komole," "My Baby," "Take Care of Me," and "Denge Pose." He has collaborated with numerous notable artists, including Davido on the 2021 track "This Your Body" and "Always."Current Status Skales continues to be active in the music industry, releasing new music and performing globally. He has achieved milestones such as accumulating over two million monthly listeners on Spotify by April 2025. He remains the head of OHK Music, which also collaborates with other musicians. In March 2021, Skales announced his engagement to his girlfriend on Instagram.
