**Waje** (born Aituaje Aina Vivian Ebele Iruobe on September 1, 1981, in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria) is a highly acclaimed Nigerian singer and songwriter whose music spans pop, R\&B, soul, blues, and rock. Recognized for her powerful voice, which covers an impressive three octaves, Waje is considered one of Africa’s foremost female vocalists.Early Life and Education Waje was born in Akure, Ondo State, and is the firstborn of her family. She spent her formative years in Benin City, Edo State, following her parents' relocation. Her parents divorced when she was young. While growing up, she discovered and honed her musical talent through singing in her church choir. Waje drew inspiration from powerful vocalists such as Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin to develop her craft. For her higher education, she attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where she earned a degree in Social Work. During her time as a student, she also worked part-time in tourism.Career Progression and Notable Works Waje officially launched her professional music career in 2007. Her initial efforts included performing in free shows and gigs while still a university student. She achieved early widespread recognition after being featured on the remake of P-Square's "Omoge Mi." Her status as a powerhouse vocalist was further cemented by her collaboration on P-Square's 2008 hit track, "Do Me." She also lent her vocals to Banky W's "Thief My Kele" and contributed to M.I's popular song "One Naira." These collaborations established her as a major force in the Nigerian music industry. Her debut album, *W.A.J.E*, was released to critical acclaim. She has since released numerous singles and albums, consistently showcasing her versatility across various musical genres.Major Achievements and Current Status Throughout her career, Waje has garnered numerous accolades and nominations, including recognition from the Headies, Nigerian Music Video Awards, and World Music Awards. Her notable nominations include Best Vocal Performer (Female) and Best R&B Single at the Headies in 2011 and 2013, and multiple nominations at the World Music Awards in 2014 for categories such as World Best Album and World Best Female Entertainer. A significant career milestone came in 2016 when Waje served as one of the four judges on the inaugural season of the music reality television competition, *The Voice Nigeria*. As a singer, songwriter, and influential figure, Waje continues to be active in the Nigerian entertainment scene, maintaining a notable presence on social media and contributing significantly to the Afrobeats and soul genres. She currently operates from Lagos, Nigeria.
